Earlier this month I had the opportunity to go to the International Make-Up Artist Trade Show with the ladies of Half Baked. IMATS is an event where make-up artists and lovers come together and get to explore the wonderful world of creativity through make-up.
First things first, I have to say that this event was very, very crowded. The line to get inside went around the block but it also went very smoothly. We got inside and first tried to go to Dose of Colors because they were selling the limited edition ‘Black Rose’ liquid lipstick. Waited an hour to finally get to the front to find out that they were sold out 😦 The line for Anastasia Beverly Hills was max long that and we also found out that they weren’t offering any discounts. There were long lines everywhere and just so crowded that looking in a booth was kinda’ tough.
But even in all that crowdedness, I was able to get some things. The Crown Brush booth was less crowded than Morphe (which we would have to probably wait an hour or two) so we were able to grab some brushes. I got blending brushes, a pro contour brush, and another contour brush. Discovered a brand I’ve never heard of called J.cat Beauty to see that they had ‘Wonder Lip Paints’ that were 3 for $10. The ‘Wonder Lip Paints’ are supposed to be comparable to Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics’ Lip Tars. I got mostly dark colors and grey and green. Grabbed a brush set for my mom from Royal and Langnickel and a beautiful nail polish set from China Glaze. The Frends booth were selling $2 eyeshadow pans that were very, very large. Lowkey sad that I didn’t get any. We also got to pass by the Hot Makeup booth which apparently is a new brand. They also had liquid lipsticks that I didn’t buy but wish I had. Their packaging is absolutely beautiful.
The coolest part about IMATS was seeing the models in beautiful and elaborate costumes. Saw a lot of glitter lips from the Violet Voss booth. Got to meet some cool people from out of state and even got to meet a real-life Carl from ‘UP!’ Got to see the Make-Up Artist History Museum. It’s a trip to see how life-like their creations come to be.
All in all, it was a fun event. If you were to ask me if I would go back? Probably not. It was too crowded for my liking and sometimes the discounts don’t compare for how long you wait in line for. If you’ve never gone, I would say it would be cool to experience. I am although, very excited to play with everything I got.
‘Til the next event!
Peace & Blessings,
