Picture this – you just aced a 15 minute interview for the job that you really, really want. Your interviewer is wrapping up your interview when they ask “Do you have any questions for me?”. Don’t think that the interview is over yet! This is a crucial question that many people stuff up, and I don’t want you to make that mistake, so I’m here to (hopefully) land you that job!
When your interviewer asks “Do you have any questions for me?”, what they really mean is “How well have you been listening and are you actually interested in this job?”
Now’s not the time to be polite and let the interviewer have all the power. Take this chance to be as intimidating as you like and really put your interviewer on the spot!
So… what are some questions that you should be asking? Questions that basically inform you about the company and the role that you’ll be playing, such as…
- Can you describe to me a typical day at this company?
- If I were to get this job, what would be my main roles?
- What skills would the ideal candidate have for this role?
- What types of things will I learn at this company?
- Where have successful employees of his company advanced to?
- Where do you see this company in 5 years?
- Are there any concerns about myself being a serious candidate for this job?
- What are some challenges that this company faces?
- Can you tell me about the team that I’ll be working with?
- What happened to the last person who filled this job? Or is this a new position?
- What’s your favourite thing about your job?
Your interviewer has to work on a schedule and they probably have more than one person to interview in the space of a few hours, so it’s probably wise to not ask all of these questions in the one interview. Pick 3 or 4 questions that you genuinely want the answer to and bring them to your next job interview!
