“APPRECIATE THE LITTLE THINGS”

We hear it all the time, but what does it mean?

It means don’t take life so seriously. We only have one precious life to live and, as strong, independent men and women, we have the power to live however we want. You got bad results in your test? Laugh it off and move on because that won’t even matter in a months time.

It means be grateful for what you have. We’re all guilty of taking life for granted and sometimes you just need to take a moment to remind yourself just how lucky you are. Look around you – you’re extremely lucky to have what you have and to be surrounded by people you love. If you love someone, go and tell them right now!

It means smile more. A single smile could be a total game changer. It could make someones day and it doesn’t cost a damn thing!

It means appreciating the big things. Go outside and look around you! Remember that the world is enormous and you’ve got the rest of your life to explore every inch of it. Soak it all in, isn’t it so beautiful?

5 things to do in Sydney for FREE

So you’ve worked your butt off and saved up for a trip ‘down under’ to Australia and you find yourself with a day or two of free time on your hands. What do you do?

I’m an Aussie girl myself and I’ve grown up around Sydney for my whole life; it’s safe to say that it’s an amazing place. Surrounded by culture, beautiful weather and lovely people, Sydney is one of those places where you just want to go out and explore every inch of the city. So what do you do in iconic Sydney when you’re on a tight budget? Read on and I can reveal to you some of the best things to do for free in Sydney, Australia!

~

Art appreciating

Sydney is home to some of the best Art Galleries and the best collections of art, where you can drench yourself in culture and take some time to really challenge your creative mind. Gain inspiration from the Museum of Contemporary Art while overlooking the Harbour, gaze at historical artworks at the Art Gallery of NSW and be delighted by the White Rabbit Gallery (and enjoy a few cheeky Dumplings after!).

Circular Quay is the place to be

Possibly the best place for all things tourist-y in Sydney; if you had only one day to spend in Sydney, Circular Quay is the best place to be. It has so many iconic tourist attractions to appreciate – the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge, The Rocks and you can even take a ferry trip to another island.

Bondi Beach. Enough said.

Or just any beach in Australia, really. They’re all f***ing amazing.

Walk on the Harbour Bridge

No I’m not talking about the $200 Bridge Climb! I’m talking about the sidewalk that runs across the whole bridge and takes you to North Sydney that even people who have a fear of heights can do! You’ll come across breathtaking views of the Harbour, but just remember to take a bottle of water because it’s a long journey!

Browse the Markets

There are markets that run on Thursdays and Saturdays in lots of places around Sydney so you can’t miss them. Have a stroll around the Eveleigh markets or the markets at The Rocks and find something unique, original, creative and affordable.

My question for you guys: Where are you from and where do you want to travel to?

DIY Word Art Room Decor

This DIY is for all of you creative people who has ever liked song lyrics a bit too much, or have been inspired by a quote, or even appreciated a piece of writing. This word art piece that you’re about to make, infuses art and your favorite aspect of creative arts to make a stylish and modern decoration to personalize your space!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
  • Newspaper (laid out on top of your table)
  • Paintbrush of your choice (preferably thick bristles)
  • Gold Gel pen
  • Blackboard Paint
  • Canvas

~

Taking your paintbrush, apply the first coat of paint onto your canvas making sure you cover the corners and edges as well. Leave to dry for about 10 minutes.
Layer on the second coat of paint, focusing on the front of the canvas and not worrying too much about the edges. This coat doesn’t have to be neatly brushed on and the thicker, the better. Leave this to dry for about 30 minutes to one hour, depending on your paint and how thick you apply it.
Get the text that you’ll be writing out and have it in front of you, especially if it’s quite a long piece of writing. I’ve chosen a few paragraphs from Lily Myers’ slam poem entitled “Shrinking Women”. At this point, you can cross out, edit and correct anything on paper, which may save you from one tiny mistake that ruins your whole word art piece.
Practice the handwriting that you want to use beforehand on a separate piece of paper, then go ahead and begin writing on your painted canvas. You can choose how you want to write your piece; the options are endless!

There you have it! A personalized piece of room decor to wow your guests!

The easiest DIY Cut Off Shorts

It’s fair to say that everyone’s guilty of having old, outdated, so-three-years-ago pants lying around the house. Some don’t have the heart to throw them out, some say that they’ll need them one day. Whatever your excuse, grab those pants right now and grab a pair of scissors, ‘coz you’re about to get down with some serious DIY business.

IMG_5765

That’s seriously all you need. Just your pants, scissors, a piece of chalk and that hot bod of yours.

First thing you’ll need to do is shimmy into those pants and figure out how short you want to make your shorts.

IMG_5756 IMG_5757

With a piece of chalk or a pencil, mark about 2 inches longer than you want your shorts to be.

Now lay your pants down on a flat surface and cut the pants, using your mark as a guide.

IMG_5769

Continue onto the next leg by folding the pants in half and using the already cut leg as your guide.

Fold the bottom twice, or you could leave it for a relaxed, frayed look.

All done! Pair your new shorts with a crop top and some flashy jewels from Gold Soul and you’re good to go!

GET THE LOOK: Spring Makeup

Now that the gloomy days are over and spring time is finally here, the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of spring is not only the beautiful flowers that are beginning to bloom but all of the bright pastel colors that seem to appear everywhere from department stores to grocery stores. Like it or not, they’re everywhere and we cannot escape it but hopefully you won’t feel the need to escape this cute little makeup pictorial that I’ve got for you! Yes, I did incorporate a pop of color just to get into the spirit of Spring but you can use something different if you’d like (BOOOOOO!!! haha jk) However, I do highly suggest that you live a little and just add the pop of color, dammit! 😉 Anyways, here is a cute and simple look that anyone can rock during the day (minus the dramatic lashes) or at night. Let’s get started!

I used the Monarch Eyeshadow Palette by Kat Von D for this whole entire makeup look but you can use whatever you have. There are a ton of dupes for the colors in this palette so feel free and get creative!

photo 1 (2) photo 1 (3)

STEP 1: After applying an eyeshadow primer/base, apply a matte cream colored shadow onto the brow bone and blend it down towards the crease. I used the shade “Tiny Death.”

STEP 2: Apply a light brown shade into the crease. This shade will act as a “transition” shade to help blend all of the colors seamlessly. I used the shade “Killing Jar.”

photo 5 photo 3 (3)

STEP 3: Blend a warm medium orange brown shade onto the outer V and in towards the crease. Focus the color more onto the outer V. I used the shade “Deadhead.”

photo 2 photo 4 (3)

STEP 4: Apply a gold color onto the lid. I used the shade “Disintegration.”

photo 3 photo 5 (3)

STEP 5: Apply any eyeliner of your choice onto the bottom waterline and slightly onto the lash line. I chose this BEAUTIFUL turquoise eyeliner by Milani Liquid Eye in shade “04 Aqua.” After applying the eyeliner of your choice (a bright purple would be pretty as well) smudge it with either a pencil brush, your finger, or a cotton swab. Make sure that you work fast because this stuff dries quick and stays put for hours!

STEP 6: Curl your eyelashes and apply mascara.

photo 3 (4) photo 4 (4)

STEP 7: Apply eyeliner and false eyelashes (optional). I used my favorite KoKo eyelashes in “Goddess.”

photo 5 (4) photo 1 (4)

And your look is complete! I hope you all enjoyed this simple makeup look with a nice pop of color. If I’m not mistaken, it kind of looks like an ocean sunset right? haha! The best part is that you can use any eyeliner or eyeshadow that you like with this look and it would still look awesome! Anyway, I hope you all give this look a try and #GoldSoulista so I can see how it turns out. Have a beautiful day everyone. Until next time, stay weird my friends =)

xoxo,

Jenn

4 obvious but helpful ways to safe money

So you want to save up a little extra money for that cheeky holiday you’re planning for the summer? Or you’re dreaming of finally owning your dream pair of designer shoes? We could all use a little bit of advice when it comes to money and babe, you got this. Here’s a reminder of a few little easy, obvious but helpful ways you can save some dollar billz… yo.

1. Hold off on the daily coffee

This may be hard to hear for coffee lovers, but you’ll be thanking yourself later! Think about it – if you grab a coffee every day, you might be already be spending double digits on hot beverages each week! Try brewing your own coffee at home and bringing it with you in a cute to-go mug, or if you just cannot resist a coffee from a barista, limit your cafe visits to 2 or 3 a week?

2. Don’t splurge on ‘wants’

Resist the thought! You don’t NEED those heels or that $200 pair of jeans! To make it easier, as weird as it sounds: don’t window shop so often. We always find ourselves “just looking” then somehow we’re at the checkout handing the sales assistant our money… oops! Think long term and use what you’re saving up for as incentive to save!

3. Shop around for sales

This goes hand in hand with the previous tip – if you do find yourself walking around at the mall and you need some new gear, take some time to look around for sales, deals and bargains. They’ll become your best friend.

4. Have 2 bank accounts

This one takes a little bit more effort, but so beneficial! Do yourself a favor and open up another bank account – have one for your daily spending on necessities and one for your savings. Make sure you manage these accounts regularly! Only put what you need into your daily spending account and put the rest in your savings account.
