4 TIPS TO THRIFT SHOP LIKE A PRO

We’ve all heard the song – yep that song. All thanks to Macklemore, everyone on Earth knows what thrift shopping is and three years later, thrift shopping is still pretty awesome. Whatever you want to call it – thrift shopping, charity shopping or second-hand shopping, it’s an awesome way to explore your inner fashion stylist and the best thing is that your wallet will still be happy after a day shopping. Most of the time, second-hand stores will donate all proceeds to a charity, so you’ve set yourself up for a win/win/win situation!

So you want to hit up your local thrift store and snap up some goods? Keep these tips in mind while you shop and become a profesh thrifter in no time!

~

1. Look through every section

Thrift stores aren’t like any other store you’ll find at a mall. For the most part, every item for sale is unique and is different to the next item; it has its very own background story and that’s what makes thrift shopping so interesting. Thoroughly look through the Men’s section, Women’s section, Kid’s section, then go check out the books and Vinyls, then take a peek at the homewares. You never know what you’ll find!

2. Go shopping with an open mind

You might walk in and see a top that you wouldn’t normally wear, but just remember: taking risks is what thrift shopping is all about! It’s about finding pieces that no one else has, showing off that sh*t and being the most fashion forward icon in town.

3. Be patient

As mentioned before, try to look through every section to find that rare gem. This means that you should spend time looking at items and thinking whether it’ll go with your new boyfriend jeans or if it’ll look cute AF paired with a dress. Patience is a must because you won’t always find anything you like; sometimes you’ll only find one thing you love and other times you’ll hit the jackpot and leave the store with bags on bags full of awesome finds.

4. Look out for sales and deals

Most thrift stores already have super low prices, but a lot of the time you’ll find really, really good deals like half off days or Buy 1 Get 1 Free deals. If you’re up for a good bargain (let’s face it, who isn’t?), do yourself a favor and hit up a thrift store right now!

CONCERT GOERS 101

People get pretty excited about concerts/festivals – they’re a pretty big deal. You get the chance to spend time with some friends and watch someone you adore perform for you at the same time – what’s not to get excited about? If you’re new to the scene, you’re in for treat! I’ve prepared the only thing on the internet you’ll need to read for everything you need to know to be concert ready.

concert-typo
It’s a hot topic and a burning question everyone asks no matter where they go. I’ve got the perfect combination of items that you need to be carrying with you to your next concert.

  • A small bag or no bag at all
If you have a small cross-body bag or a small backpack, bring that! It’s a perfect size for a concert because you should only bring the essentials. If you insist on bringing heaps, check if the concert venue has a Cloak Room so you can check in your goodies safely.
  • Leave your cameras at home
Don’t be one of those party poopers who film and photograph the entire performance and forget to be in the moment. There’s nothing wrong with filming 1 or 2 songs and taking a few photos on your phone, but don’t watch the concert through a screen.
  • Did you bring the tickets?
I’ve seen it happen before to other people – they managed to forget their ticket to the concert. Check at least 5 times before you leave the house if you have everything!
  • These are the essentials
Phone, Wallet (Only bring what you’ll use!) and your ID. That’s it.

concert-typoWEAR
No matter what genre of concert you’re going to – you’re probably going to want to get up and enjoy yourself, whether that involves jumping in sync with the crowd, getting up just to sing along or to dance with no rhythm. It’s guaranteed that you’ll be on your feet and moving all night, so it’s an absolute must that you rock up wearing something comfortable, but stylish (of course!).

  • Shorts are always a good option
They give your legs some air to breathe and you won’t get suffocated by jeans. There’s so many kinds of cute shorts out there, so go ahead and treat your booty to something cute! You can always add stockings underneath for cooler nights.
  • Chuck on some leggings for the cold
They’re the best bottoms to wear if you’re out on a cold night or you plan on sitting for the night. They still give you allowance to move around and they prevent you from freezing!
  • Comfortable shoes are a must!
Sorry gals but it’s probably not the best idea to wear your new Jeffrey Campbells to a concert. Wear shoes that you know can go through a beating, but can keep your feet happy. If you want some added height, you’ll benefit out of investing in some comfortable Flatform shoes.
  • Don’t go overboard on accessories
The last thing you want at the end of your night is knowing that you’ve lost your favorite ring, so I strongly suggest that you leave the expensive stuff at home. Everyone wants to enjoy their time and no one wants to spend the entire night having wrists with excessive bracelets and chunky rings waved in front of their faces!

concert-typoBEAUTY
There’s probably no need to be all glammed up if you’re going to (TMI warning) sweat it off anyway, plus, it might be bad for your skin. But if you want to, then no one’s stopping you!

  • Try Waterproof makeup
It’s supposed to withstand water, right? Why not give it a go and end the night still looking perfectly made up.
  • Use lipstick that will last
If you want to smack some color onto your lips, then use a Matte formula lipstick or a lip product that you swear by. You don’t want to be smudging color all over your skin and clothes!
  • Tie your hair up!
If you’ve scored yourself a spot on the floor, you’re bound to be pushed up against random people left, right, center, front, back and every other angle possible. Your concert experience will, no doubt, involve major movement and sweat. The last thing you want to add to that mix is hair drenched in sweat whipped right in your face.

concert-typoEXP
You never know what might happen at a concert/festival. You might meet some lovely random people or you might leave thinking it was the worst night of your life.

  • The floor is where all the action is
If you’ve found yourself smack bang in front of the performer on the dancefloor, then be prepared for one hell of an experience. Prepare yourself to be pushed in every direction, drenched in water, alcohol and sweat. It might sound bad, but at least you can say “Remember that time when I was covered in sweat and beer? Good times.”
  • It’s gonna get loud
And I mean, really loud. If you leave with a high pitched ringing in your ears – that’s normal; you’re doing it right.
  • Not everyone will be nice
You’ll overhear some pretty nasty conversations since everyone’s standing or sitting so close to each other. Whether it’s about the supporting act or about someone standing right next to them, they’ll bitch loudly enough so be nice. If you see someone struggling, help them. If you accidentally fall on someone, apologize and shoot a smile!
